Asian team tipped to dethrone Scotland

CHUAH CHOO CHIANG

DONGGUAN, CHINA : Asian stars are ready to ride on the feel good factor and challenge for top honours at the Omega Mission Hills World Cup which begins tomorrow.
Thongchai and Prayad also represented Thailand last year.
Lin Wen-tang's memorable victory in Hong Kong on Sunday highlighted a memorable past few weeks for the Asian Tour which also celebrated wins from India's Jeev Milkha Singh and Thailand's Prayad Marksaeng in Singapore and Japan respectively.
All three players will represent their nations at Mission Hills Golf Club and confidence is running high that an Asian nation can dethrone Scotland of their World Cup crown.
"Asian players are getting strong. Anybody can win tournaments these days. This week, we'll have a good chance as well. We'll try but sometimes, you need the element of luck to win," said Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee, who is a two-time Asian number one.
Last year, Thongchai partnered Prayad, who is fresh off a third victory of the season in Japan at the Dunlop Phoenix tournament, to finish tied 15th. The Thais will again wear coordinated colours this week in hope of enjoying a successful week at Mission Hills.
"If we can win the World Cup, it'll be very good for our country. We will try to win this week although it wont be easy. We'll be using the same colours, same golf bags, and our caddies will also be in same outfits. It's a team event and we want to act as a team," said Thongchai.
Lin will make his Omega Mission Hills World Cup debut for Taiwan where he will partner seasoned campaigner Lu Wen-teh, who is also making his first appearance in the prestigious team competition which was inaugurated in 1953.
After pulling off a memorable play-off victory at the UBS Hong Kong Open, Lin, who has risen to 51st on the world rankings, is hoping to ride on his rich vein of form to reproduce Taiwan's lone victory in the World Cup dating back to 1972.
"With the success of Asian players in recent weeks, there is a feeling that we can win the big events, even this week. Our confidence is high and we've got a feel good attitude now," said Lin, currently second on the Asian Tour's Order of Merit. >>> more >>

Back Swing Takeaway

Back Swing Takeaway
Step One - Setup
We’ll start, of course, with your correct golf stance and club grip. The club head should be floating just above the ground behind the ball. I then do the little things that get me loose and relaxed (to each his own).
Step Two - Hinge arm/Cock wrists
(This is the beginning of where anyone who knows anything about golf will begin to disagree with me.)I start my golf back swing, or golf swing takeaway, by bringing the golf club head back, however, I don’t focus on the club head. Instead I think of the arm as being hinged at my left shoulder. Then, like a gate that swings open from it’s hinges, the left arm hinges at the left shoulder and swings across the body until it approaches the right side at my right armpit. The left arm remains relatively straight, but could bend slightly. My shoulder and upper body turn begin as the left arm reaches this position.
As the arms go back, two things should happen.
First, the forearms will naturally rotate clockwise slightly until the golf club head points to the sky. Opening the club face more won’t seem right to you if you tend to slice, but don’t resist this very natural movement.Second, as your arms travel up and back and the golf club shaft approaches parallel to the ground, you will gradually begin cocking your wrists. Then by the time that your left arm is parallel to the ground, your wrists should be completely cocked at a 90 degree angle.(This is the last time we discuss or think about the position of your arms.)Cocking your wrists is a very important part of creating club head speed. This was one of my big swing problems. I was so concerned about “taking the club straight back” at the beginning of my back swing that I never completely cocked my wrists. Fixing this straightened out several of my golf swing problems

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com Review No athlete has changed his sport the way Tiger Woods has transformed the world of golf. The Tiger phenomenon has created a new legion of golfers, seduced by Woods's almost effortless mastery of this most difficult game. In How I Play Golf Woods reveals the many facets of his game and offers a plethora of tips and advice aimed at all levels of play. Unlike most golf guides, and perhaps somewhat surprising from a player best known for his long game, How I Play Golf begins with the short game--putting, chipping, and pitching--before moving onto swing mechanics and hitting off the tee. Produced in conjunction with the editors of Golf Digest, the book is lavishly photographed and illustrated and offers a gold mine of useful ideas and mental images Tiger has collected over the years. Throughout, Tiger recounts memorable shots from his relatively brief career; for example, his only "perfect" shot (a 3-wood on No. 14 at St. Andrews) and his first putt at the 1995 Masters (a 20-footer for birdie on No. 1 that missed and rolled off the green). How I Play Golf is not only a first-rate instructional guide, it also communicates a passion and respect for the game that beginners, hackers, and low handicappers should find inspiring. Highly recommended. --Harry C. Edwards
From Publishers Weekly Very few sports figures have accomplished as much as Woods has already achieved at age 25. He has been named "Sportsman of the Year" by Sports Illustrated twice; he has won more than 30 professional tournaments and he's the youngest player to win the Grand Slam four of the major pro championships. Despite his many commercials and product endorsements, Woods is one of the rare athletes who isn't overplayed in the media. Unlike many other sports stars, Woods plays and wins quietly. That may explain why this instructional book will reach far beyond the links. Woods talks about his experiences and his attitudes toward golf and life. The conversational tone is quite engaging: "The difference between golf and most other sports is that anyone of average intelligence and coordination can learn to play it well. It requires a commitment to being the best that you can be. That has always been my approach to the game.... Pop gave me many great lessons, not only about golf, but also about life. His greatest advice to me was always be myself." On watching the ball, Woods says, "If you're like me, you can't wait to see if the ball is tracking toward the hole right after the golf ball leaves the putterface.... The tendency to peek too soon causes your head to move and leads to off-sloppy contact.... I found an effective way to fight the problem: I practice putting with my left eye closed, so I can't see the target line at all with my peripheral vision. That makes it easier to keep my eyes looking straight down." Accompanied by wonderful photos, the book reads as if Woods is right there with the golfer, providing instructions. (Oct.) Forecast: With scheduled appearances on Oprah and Dateline along with extensive print and television advertising, this book will immediately shoot out of the bookstores. Strong sales should continue for a long time.

Customer Reviews
good damn putter Liked bullseye putters when i was growing up. i bought the augusta last spring. ten footers became automatic. it disappeared with the rest of my clubs. ordered another ihope it is as good.
Absurd lack of basic two-way putters Like Gail Bailey in the previous review, I switch putt (depending on the break). It's ridiculously simple and effective, never putting across your body. In summer '95 I bought a new Titleist Bullseye Wide Blade putter, the classic John Reuter Jr. design. The heavy clubhead is perfect since it's much easier to remain consistent on both sides if I default to a smooth stroke without too much force. I would have purchased a half dozen if I'd known the bizarre future of putter design. My bullseye is well worn on both sides, disturbing nicks that I blame when the lip outs arrive. I've been unable to find a more pristine replacement. This Wilson Augusta qualifies and is very classy, but it is much lighter. That's the only reason I allow 4 stars and not 5.
Finally! I putt both right and left handed and have wanted a single putter (not being able to afford two). The closest I found was a vintage Bullseye, which I promptly bought even though it had considerably wear. This is almost an exact copy, so I snapped it up at first sight and have been very pleased with its performance.

Excellent Product These balls really fly far enough to show you hooks, slices, pulls, and pushes. After hitting them over my house for a few days I was able to fix some problems I was having. Its great, because now I don't have to take a trip to the range everytime I want to tweak something with my swing. My game still stinks, but who cares I am having fun!!!!!!
Great fun and practice Best practice balls available. These balls are very durable and feel very solid when you hit them-unlike plastic balls that can break or become deformed. They follow a realistic flight path. It draws, fades, slices, and hooks just like a real ball. The bright yellow ball makes is easy to find and hits roughly 1/3rd the distance of a real ball (maybe slightly longer)-this can be good or bad depending on how much area you have a available, but even using a driver you won't need more then 100 yards. As long as there is even a small park nearby you will have plenty of room. Overall these balls are fun and will improve your golf game at the same time.
Perfect. If you want to improve your game dramatically while also saving costs, this product is a must buy. There's no need to drive somewhere to practice your swing and constantly spend money, you have the convenience of simply going into your backyard and hitting a highly realistic golf ball that only travels 1/3 the distance and doesn't break your neighbors window. गुड बी ,bigsack

Product Description
As a longtime golfer, Jeff Foxworthy has learned something important about the grand auld game: It’s not who has the highest score, it’s who has the least fun playing it. And now, in his hilarious primer How to Really Stink at Golf, Foxworthy shares his invaluable tips for a lifetime of horrible drives and putts.• Get into the right frame of mind to play truly awful golf. Food poisoning or a killer hangover might be just the ticket to a robust three-digit score.• Try to get to the course promptly at tee time to avoid the hassle of warming up: “You’re only gonna hit five good shots in the course of the day; why waste even one on the driving range?”• The surefire way to screw up a great drive? As you walk to the tee, keep telling yourself, “Don’t screw up your drive.” If bad golf’s your goal, stress is your best friend.• Avoid fun. “Fun = relaxed = low scores . . . and that’s something we want to avoid at all cost. If you have a good hole, shake it off.”• Perhaps the most important element: Embrace the fact that you do stink at golf. Cheating. Cursing. Avoiding fairways. Reckless cart driving. How to Really Stink at Golf covers it all, from selecting the correct putter to use on a 385-yard drive to prolonging your stay in the sand trap to picking the perfect foursome for spectacularly bad golf (“you, your ex-wife, your girlfriend, your wife”). With Jeff Foxworthy as your guide, even a scratch golfer can add ten, twenty, maybe thirty strokes to his or her score–and possibly more if you attempt to play the back nine, too.

Product Description
"Eddie Lowery left his first imprint on the game of golf in 1913 as the 10-year-old caddie to underdog U।S. Open champion Francis Ouimet. Best-selling author Mark Frost continues Lowery's story 43 years later with Lowery as a multi-millionaire car-dealer, who boasted to fellow millionaire and golf staple George Coleman that amateur golfers Harvie Ward and Ken Venturi could hands down beat any other two golfers in the world in a best ball match. A bet was made for a substantial sum of cash, and a tee time was set at the prestigious Cypress Point Country Club (Hampton Roads, Virginia) for Ward and Venturi to play whomever Coleman decided to bring. The morning of the match, Coleman showed up with the other half of the foursome: Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson, the two most distinguished golfers in the world. Despite efforts to keep the match under wraps from the public, word leaked out as soon as the men arrived at the course and a hundred people surrounded them by the time they reached the first tee. Three and a half hours later, nearing the conclusion of what many in the game now refer to as the greatest private match in the history of American golf, the crowd lining Highway 1 and the eighteenth fairway numbered close to five thousand people. Mark Frost brings to life an unlikely golf match that changed golf forever."
Editorial रेविएव्स
From Publishers Weekly In 1956, millionaires Eddie Lowery and George Coleman made an off-the-cuff bet on a golf match and inadvertently set up one of the sport's most climactic duels; this one casual game has become the sport's great suburban legend. Frost (The Greatest Game Ever Played) diligently covers the two pros slightly past their prime, Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson, who squared off against two top amateurs, Harvie Ward and Ken Venturi. It happened in the last hours of Hogan's playing career, and ten years after Byron had left the stage, but at the near pinnacle of the amateurs', whose personalities couldn't have been more diametrically opposed (Venturi the classic up-and-comer, and Ward the inveterate playboy who performed hungover on two hours' sleep). The match itself, scrupulously teased out by Frost for maximum drama, is less interesting than the people involved and the historical backdrop. The match happened near the sport's great cusp, as it transitioned from something for amateurs to a professional career, from a pastime for wastrel aristocrats and entertainers (and Bing Crosby, with his annual booze-soaked Clambake charity matches) to a mainstream suburban obsession. Frost has a penchant toward the florid, but as he writes, Because he was Ben Hogan, and it was just past twilight, and his like would never pass this way again, he captures an elusive magic in this improbable matchup and what it meant for those who played and witnessed it. (Nov.) Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
Review "The Match was a dream I never thought would come true. If I hadn't been there I wouldn't believe it myself, and if you know anything about sports or the game of golf, once you pick up this book you won't put it down. No one will ever see an event like this again. Fiction can't touch it." -- Ken Venturi
From the Inside Flap
The bestselling author of The Greatest Game Ever Played returns with the story of the little-known match that forever changed the history of golf.
The year: 1956. Four decades have passed since Eddie Lowery came to fame as the ten-year-old caddie to U.S. Open Champion Francis Ouimet. Now a wealthy car dealer and avid supporter of amateur golf, Lowery has just made a bet with fellow millionaire George Coleman. Lowery claims that two of his employees, amateur golfers Harvie Ward and Ken Venturi, cannot be beaten in a best-ball match. Lowery challenges Coleman to bring any two golfers of his choice to the course at 10 a.m. the next day to settle the issue.
Coleman accepts the challenge and shows up with his own power team: Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson, the game's greatest living professionals, with fourteen major championships between them.
In Mark Frost's peerless hands, complete with the recollections of all the participants, the story of this immortal foursome and the game they played that day--legendarily known in golf circles as the greatest private match ever played--comes to life with powerful, emotional impact and edge-of-your-seat suspense.

The Art of the Short Game: Tour-Tested Secrets for Getting Up and Down

Product Description
“The hottest instructor in golf” (Sports Illustrated) takes on old-school gurus with a far more accessible, intuitive, and innovative approach to those essential chip shots, pitches, and bunker rescues. Veteran golfers know that the secret to a lower score is a solid short game, but mastering those small strokes can be maddening—even for the pros. One of golf’s most revered instructors, Stan Utley now reveals the step-by-step tactics behind his revolutionary short-game techniques in The Art of the Short Game.
After introducing readers to his groundbreaking philosophy that explains why most players don’t see all the shots available to them near the green, Utley moves on to shatter conventional wisdom about stance, grip, and ball position. From choosing the right clubs (including a checklist of must-haves that should always be in your bag) to spin reduction during chipping and fearless sand play, The Art of the Short Game demystifies the most aggravating shots on the links. Though Utley’s primer features a full set of drills, accompanied by more than seventy-five photos, his approach is far removed from the monotonous, mechanical instruction of yesteryear.
Giving a time-tested secret weapon to every golfer at every level, Utley’s short-game methods turn trouble shots into triumph.

Customer Reviews
With practice it's a very effective method Stan Utley's short game method was not really "easy" for me. It was a definite change from my usual short game techniques and initially it felt very awkward. I had one great short game round with a lot of up and down par saves followed by some very frustrating rounds that included score-inflating skulled or stubbed chips and pitches. I am commited to making this work as I trust that Utley knows of what he speaks and since I did have some initial success- far better than my typical short game. I've gone back and reviewed sections of the book and the associated drills and have dedicated some time to practice. I am finally "getting it." I've ordered a 58 deg wedge with 12 deg of bounce as Utley suggested. This will replace my current 56 and 60 deg wedges and will make room for an additional club at the other end of my set. With experimentation I have been able to hit a wide variety of shots with one wedge (either the 56 or 60) and I think the 58 deg wedge will work better for this. It was surprising to me that changing shot trajectory was not really too challenging a skill to pick up and it will come in very handy. Utley's sand shot method is pretty unique but this alone was worth the price of the book for me. I have never been very confident from the sand despite carrying a low single-digit handicap. Once I got the feel for this method I started getting up and down from the sand more regularly and now actually enjoy hitting shots from greenside bunkers. I would recommend the book for this technique alone. I prefer learning golf techniques with personal lessons or from video formats. I was somewhat skeptical about the relative effectiveness of learning golf skills from a book. The illustrations were helpful but not entirely clear. I spent considerable time trying to conceptualize Utley's lessons and would have liked a DVD format but hey, it worked. I can't argue with the results. This is a quick read, but as mentioned I have re-read sections multiple times and will probably continue to do this to compliment my practice and to keep me from drifting back to my old bad habits. The bottom line for me was that this is not a magic fix for the short game but it is solid advice and proven techniques that WILL work with some practice. Good luck.

Customer Reviews
my all time favorite, a must have the whole reason i bought the ds, i literally played this game every night before bed and would not put it down until i beat an entire world. modern adaptation of a classic, with new enemies to conquer and koopas to defeat. highest recommendation for mario fans young and old alike.
64 year old gamer I am pleased with the game, I can remember mario from old school, wish I could find donkey kong too. this game helps me concentrate and goes where I go, so I'm never bored.
Great game! This game is like the old Mario games. I love this kind of gaming style. I am very addicted to Mario. That's the reason why I got a DS. The goal of this game is to, of course save Peach but at the same time, collect gold coins to open up different bonus levels where you can get life or a power up. There are many different tricks in getting to different worlds too. And the best part is you don't have to complete all the worlds to save Peach, so you can go back and try to get to those worlds later.

More of the same... I love Enya but this CD is more of the same "Enya sound"... but unfortunately not as good as her previous releases. And the Christmas musical theme is an acquired taste.
WONDERFUL CD: LET ENYA BE ENYA Come on people, get over it! This is Enya, not Madonna, who keeps reinventing herself and experimenting with new sounds. Why look and produce radically different music when you risk losing the very fan base that has made you such a beloved international music artist? The track "AND WINTER CAME" may be a "MIDNIGHT BLUE" rehash, but a nice-sounding one. "WHITE IS IN THE WINTER NIGHT" cannot be a more upbeat tune. The same can be said about "MY! MY! TIME FLIES," with a surprising electric guitar solo uncharacteristic of Enya, still welcome. You see, she appears to be experimenting, but don't expect to throw an entire CD with a totally different feel and appeal to it. Why expect a "Shepherd Moons 2" or "The Memory of Trees 2" off of every album? Chill: pour a cup of tea (I don't drink coffee...hehe!), sit back, relax, and let Enya's beautiful voice take you through yet another journey of enchanting tunes.

KICKBACKS , Goodbye Vicarage Road

Last week pop star Elton John announced he had resigned as life president from Watford FC saying he was disillusioned with the running of the club and warning of a potential "catastrophe".
"There is a danger of it plummeting into freefall," he warned.
This does not appear to be simply one of the rock star's periodic tantrums. Watford have recently slipped to near the foot of the Championship, their promising manager Adrian Boothroyd has been dismissed and things certainly look bleak for the Hertfordshire club.
It is a sad time for all Watford supporters and Elton, who has a genuine love for the club. He has been a fan since he was seven years old and says he will remain a supporter.
Although he is resigning from what is an honorary role, his departure will definitely have an impact, especially on older fans who appreciate what he has done for the club.
It looks like the end of a 32-year-old affair with the club which he transformed when he took it over and became chairman back in 1976.
At that time Watford were a struggling Fourth Division side that had never experienced any real sort of fame throughout their history. They were in danger of slipping into oblivion.
Elton's first big move was to sign up Graham Taylor as manager and the future England boss was an immediate success as the Hornets ran away with the title in 1978. .bigsack,>by Nobby Piles>>More

G20 leaders off to Washington crisis summit

Washington (AFP) - Leaders from the world's biggest economic powers gathered in Washington on Friday for a crisis summit to recast the global financial order as recession spreads to a growing number of countries.
US President George W. Bush will host more than 20 leaders from the world's richest nations and emerging economic powerhouses at a working dinner at the White House followed by formal talks on Saturday.
Though the US leader faces mounting calls from Europe, Russia and other emerging nations to increase financial market control, Bush's term ends on January 20 and he cannot make firm commitments for president-elect Barack Obama.
The summit, billed as a first in a series, comes amid growing evidence that the worst international financial crisis in generations is taking a heavy toll on economies around the world.
Highlighting the increasingly dire situation, EU data on Friday showed the 15 nations sharing the euro has slumped into the first official recession since the bloc was formed in 1999.
Despite growing pressure for international action in the face of a fast deteriorating global economic situation, European Commission chief Jose Manuel Barroso warned that the summit would not yield rapid solutions..,bigsack>>>> More

Barack Obama 6" Action Figure

Like countless others out there, we've been inspired by the meteoric rise of Barack Obama and his campaign. In a time when America so desperately needed a hero, along came a man to show us a brand new vision of what America and the world could be in the 21st century. In many ways, Obama is the closest thing we've ever seen to a superhero... someone who has literally inspired millions of people simultaneously to step past fear, to be brave enough to hope and to go past cynicism and imagine what we could be if we were at our best. That's the stuff of legend! And Jailbreak Toys wanted to pitch in. So in that spirit, they created the Obama Action Figure, because every superhero should have one. 6 inches tall, 8 points of articulation, window boxed and made from phthalate-free PVC. An action figure you can believe in!

From the Manufacturer In many ways, senator Barack Obama is the closest thing to a superhero, someone who has literally inspired millions of people simultaneously to step past fear, to be brave enough to hope, and to go past cynicism and imagine what we could be if we were at our best. Standing 6" tall with 8 points of articulation, window boxed and made from phthalate-free PVC. An action figure you can believe in.

Obama action figure I love it!!! And all my friends, too. I am a 58 year old doll collector.

Great Keepsake I bought two of these. One to keep as a souvenir and one to open. I still haven't been able to open one of them. I think I'll just keep them both as souvenirs. I've seen a lot of Obama merchandise and most items don't resemble him at all. At least with this product they attempted to get some likeness.

Handsome Smart Guy This IS an Action Figure WE CAN BELIEVE IN! I ordered many for my family to give as stocking suffers. This action figure gives Barack his due justice-- it looks very handsome and smart! It's not silly, it's a great replica of him, and something that people will cherish for years to come. I don't recommend the action figure for young children, I think adults will appreciate much more!

The Little Black Book of Style

The Little Black Book of Style,By Nina Garcia
Every time you dress, you assert your identity. With style, you tell the world your story. In that way, style affords you opportunities to think about your appearance as a quality of your creative character. The Little Black Book of Style helps you to explore your own fashion voice—the piece of you that joyously revels in the glamorous experience of creating your best self. From cultivating good taste to guarding against definite fashion faux pas, Nina Garcia offers readers the ultimate guide to follow when it comes to dressing their best. Including tips on how and when to wear an outfit, occasion-appropriate wear, advice on how to combine colors and textures, and inspiration on how to achieve your own signature look, you learn how to experiment, storyboard, archive, and play. Timeless and universal, this book seeks to remind women that eternal style is internal style, and that everyone has what it takes to discover themselves through the colorful palette that is fashion.

was very excited to read The Little Black Book of Style by Nina Garcia, former editor-at-large at Elle Magazine and judge on Bravo's popular tv show "Project Runway." Nina provides her own point of view on style and fashion as well as provides useful tips from many of her famous designer friends. I really liked her account of her upbringing in Columbia and how her mother and father, as well as the other residents in her town, shaped her sense of style. While this book does not offer mind-blowing advice, it was a nice read and may reinforce what you already know. Since I'm a big fan of Project Runway, I could almost hear Nina talking to me while reading her book. She is very knowledgable in her field, so I will pretty much listen to anything she has to say. The illustrations within the book are very colorful and fun and bring the book to life. If you want to learn more about style and fashion, or just supplement what you already know, read this book!
Just good. I bought this along with Nina's other book, the one hundred, and while this one is good, I would recommend the one hundred way over this one. It's a nice read, and again filled with gorgeous illustrations, but I find that the other book is more useful for advice and a solid fashion foundation. The other one is also much longer

A great companion to the series Guy Fieri is one of the Next Food Network Stars that really has become a star, and that doesn't mean prima donna! He is funny, smart, and knows how to get the best out of the DDD's he visits. Accompanying the information about the diners, he includes a recipe from that establishment - my favorite? A coconut cream pie! Fun, great read and good recipes! A winning combination!
Too little of everything I have been a DDD fan from the beginning. I have seen every episode at least once, some thrice. I have wanted a book forever, and have long thought about what I wanted it to be. So maybe that is why I am disappointed so much. I was hoping for a travel guide that I could use to seek out DDD favorites. But this guide does not cover everyplace he has been, just some of them. And it lacks a good index by state and city for the locations he does cover. You can flip thru the pages by part of the country, but it is tedious and not as easy as it could be. A national map with numbered locations would have been good too. The fact that the pictures of the people and locations are black and white keeps it from becoming exciting or make me want to visit. A black and white picture of a building sign is just a waste of book space. These places have character, and you get NONE of it in the pictures. The whole book feels boring and drab from the minute you pick it up. The book tries to be part travel guide, part cookbook, and part show diary. IMHO, it fails at all three. It has a recipe from most of the selected locations, but no pictures of the food. That may be just as well, because black and white pictures of food would take the book to a new level of dullness. The narratives for each location are uninspired, and sound like they were written by a newly-graduated ghost writer rather than the inimitable Guy. Most of it reads more boringly than a small-town restaurant review. As a show diary, it lacks any funny stories or off-camera tidbits that might have brought some humor and interest to an otherwise exceedingly dull book. Maybe i will feel better about this book once I make a few recipes. But I suspect that this one is going to end up on eBay or Amazon Used Books in a few weeks.
Like diners and dives? Check this out! I'm addicted to Guy Fieri's Food Network show, "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives." Whenever I have a chance, I tune in; normally, it's a cool one hour trip across the country. His enthusiasm comes right through the screen as he tries out different dishes at each establishment. This book provides a sampling of some of those establishments across the country. The format is simple: a brief description of the diner or deli or dive, a photo of the place, and one or more illustrative recipes. In a sense, using one of his own terms, this is a trip to "Flavortown." One nice touch: his recognition of key players in his crew, as they work together as a team across the country. Some examples of the places he looks at and the recipes that he spotlights. The "Blue Moon Cafe" in Baltimore, Maryland. I am looking forward, in the near future, to a long weekend in Baltimore; it's an enjoyable visit. This time, I may choose to try out this place. He focuses on breakfast in his two cafe examination of this cafe. The recipe given is intriguing--but not for me, Cap'n Crunch French Toast. I'm not going to ever make this, but it's fun to imagine making it and tasting it. Ingredients: heavy cream, eggs, vanilla, Cap'n Crunch, sugar, bread, sugar, berries. The 5 steps in the recipe sure look doable for amateur chefs. Interesting. . . . Then, there is "Panini Pete's," located in Fairhope, Alabama. One interesting aspect: the head cook is a classically trained European chef. One recipe: Pete's Rubbed and Almost Fried Turkey Sandwich. Focaccia bread, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, Kosher salt and pepper, Dijon mustard, fried turkey (a menu provided for that, too), roasted red pepper, baby greens, mozzarella, and garlic mayo. Oooh. Read the recipe and imagine the tasty results! Then, there is Joe's Farm Grill in Arizona. Much of the food is grown right there. One specialty is hamburgers, with all sorts of eye popping toppings (e.g., apple-cider smoked bacon, pepperoni, roasted red peppers, and so on). But this isn't just a burger joint. Witness the recipe provided--Asian Slaw with Spicy Thai Vinaigrette. Combine the vegetables, including green and red and napa cabbage, julienned green onion, julienned red bell pepper, shredded carrots, salt and pepper, topped with spicy Thai vinaigrette. Looks yummy. Anyhow, this is worth the price of purchase simply for the description of the diners, delis, and dumps--and seeing the building where the establishment is located. The recipes are interesting, too, although I would not even think of making many of these (some may be great tasting, but they're awfully fatty and loaded with cholesterol). If you like Guy Fieri's show, you'll enjoy this book, I think.

Customer Reviews
nice product I bought this set after shopping around at the local medical professional stores and finding the same sets for double the price. Some reviews have said the stethoscope wasn't sensitive enough, but I don't have that problem at all. Both the stethoscope and the cuff work perfectly. I also did the free shipping which is supposed to take longer and I still had it in less than a week.
Seemingly good blood pressure cuff and stethoscope They both work great, but the first one I received had a defective blood pressure cuff. They were prompt on allowing me to return it and get a replacement. All for no charge extra. It is a seemingly good blood pressure cuff and stethoscope. Everything is working great with it so far.
Hmmm Everything with the cuff and stethoscope was okay except I think there was a leak with the blood pressure cuff. Whenever I pumped up the cuff, you can tell by the guage that the pin is slowly coming down. But if you're looking for an inexpensive cuff and stethoscope that gets the job done I'd stick with this one.
