Bats needn’t give a frightCreatures welcome bonus to environment

By LINDA LOMBARDI The Associated PressSat. Oct 18 - 8:57 AM

Bats pollinate the agave plant that tequila is made from, as well as the avocados in that accompanying guacamole. Closer to home, you can also thank bats for fewer mosquito bites: A single bat eats hundreds of flying insects per hour. Most people only think of bats when they’re hanging decorations at Halloween, and consider them dangerous vermin — an opinion based entirely on myths and misconceptions. Bats are not flying mice, they don’t want to fly into your hair, and only three out of the over a thousand species worldwide drink blood.Statistically, you’re less likely to die from rabies from a bat bite than to be killed by a dog attack — which is itself less likely than being killed by lightning. news form http://thechronicleherald.ca/Science/9008935.html

Hot (charter) wings Flying taxis carve out niche in competitive air travel
TOM PETERS Business Reporter Wed. Oct 22 - 5:57 AM

Maritime Air Charter Ltd. has found a formula that seems to work in the highly competitive atmosphere of commercial air travel.
"We are purely an air taxi," said president Steve Christiansen. "We have no contracts and we don’t advertise a lot. And furthermore, the small charter carrier is not committed to scheduled service. If they don’t have passengers, they don’t go.
Maritime Air Charter started 12 years ago with one small aircraft and now has two twin-engine Navajos that take six passengers each, a twin-engine King Air that will carry nine passengers and a small aircraft under government contract to fly to Sable Island.
Mr. Christiansen, who is also one of the company’s pilots, said the major carriers are his airline’s competitors. http://thechronicleherald.ca/Business/1086050.html

Thailand central banking news

Thailand central banking news:Annual symposium, possible change in inflation target, delay in MPC appointment

After the 1997 c, the Bank of Thailand formulated a new long-term anti-inflationary monetary policy that the central bank has adhered to without wavering to this day.
Since year 2000 the target of monetary policy has been to keep core inflation within a range of zero to 3.5% over the next two years.
The consumer price index measures the general level of prices for goods that households buy.
Core inflation is just the consumer price index without energy and fresh food goods which usually have more volatile prices than other goods.
The central bank is considering switching to using the consumer price index (headline inflation) instead of core inflation because core inflation has lagged headline inflation.
Production prices increased at a double digit pace in August (22% year-on-year) which clearly shows that there are inflationary pressures despite a recent decline in oil prices

Rubik's Cube

The date is 1974. The place is Budapest, Hungary. Erno Rubik, an admirer of geometry and 3-D forms creates the world's most perfect -- and addictive -- puzzle. More than three decades later the Rubik's cube is still one of the best selling brainteasers. Whether it was full size or the smaller keychain version almost every child had this puzzle by in 1980 when it found worldwide success. Elementary school kids were seen solving it with their feet on "That's Incredible!", conspiracy theorists believed it was an Eastern bloc tactic to distract American youth from getting an education, and Cubaholics Anonymous was formally established to help cure the compulsive need to solve it.

For all of the hullabaloo, the Rubik’s Cube actually has a pretty straightforward premise. The faces of the cube are covered by nine stickers in six solid colors (one for each 2.25" side); when the puzzle is solved, each face is one solid color. Then you realize as you turn the rows and columns and see all the colors flash by that there are 43 quintillion possible pattern combinations (that’s 43 million millions), but just one right one. Maybe Cubaholics Anonymous wasn’t such a bad idea after all….
This Rubik’s Cube has reflective red, white, blue, yellow, green, and orange colored stickers with an official twenty-fifth anniversary sticker in the center white square. The cube is packaged in a clear hexagon box and includes a black display stand. There is also a solutions hint and game suggestion book, just in case.
From the Manufacturer Rubik's Cube® is the incredibly addictive, multi-dimensional challenge that has fascinated puzzle fans around the world since 1980. This completely redesigned gift package is a sure-fire, must-have collectable. As a special added bonus, a Free Rubik's Cube stand is included.

Customer Reviews
Rubik's Cube The quality of the toy is very good. It movies smoothly w/o any problem. My son loves it. Great product!
Many hours of fun or frustration You gotta love the rubics cube. It is just an all time favorite and classic toy. I remember playing with this toy 30 years ago. Once i removed the stickers to complete the puzzle. Of course this ruins the toy for future attempts at the puzzle. Then later i learned how to take it apart and reassemble the puzzle so it was solved. Now as an adult i just sit up for hours ever so close to solving it without the former mentioned tactics. The cube comes with instructions for solving. i just don't get them though. Still you gotta love the rubics cube
